Trauma & PTSD

Trauma therapy that moves at a pace you can trust

Painful experiences can leave a lasting imprint on the mind and body. Trauma-informed therapy can help you feel safer, steadier, and more like yourself.

Where to begin

What happened was not your fault

Trauma is not only about what happened. It is also about how your nervous system adapted to survive it. You might notice feeling on edge, numb, easily startled, or pulled back into memories you did not choose.

These reactions make sense. With support, they can soften. You decide what to share, and when.

Understanding it

How trauma can affect you

Trauma can follow a single event, such as an accident or assault. It can also build over time through ongoing stress, neglect, or relationships that did not feel safe. PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) is one possible response, but not the only one.

You do not need to tell your whole story to begin. Approaches like EMDR and somatic therapy can work without detailed retelling.

Our approach

How we work with trauma

Safety comes first. We build steadiness and resources before approaching painful memories, and you set the pace throughout.

  1. Step 1

    Orientation

Getting to know you, your goals, and what feels safe.

  2. Step 2

    Stabilizing

Building grounding skills and inner resources before deeper work.

  3. Step 3

    Processing

Working with memories and body responses, gently and in small steps.

  4. Step 4

    Integration

Carrying more steadiness and choice into daily life and relationships.

Questions people ask

Questions about trauma therapy

Do I have to talk about what happened?
No. You choose what to share. Many trauma approaches, including EMDR and somatic work, do not require detailed retelling.
What if I am not sure my experience "counts" as trauma?
You do not need to label it. If something still affects how you feel, sleep, or relate to others, it is worth exploring.
What if I am in crisis?
Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911 in an emergency. Repose provides outpatient therapy and is not an emergency service.
