Anxiety

Anxiety therapy that works with your mind and your body

Anxiety can show up as racing thoughts, a tight chest, or constant bracing. Therapy can help you understand it and feel steadier.

Where to begin

Anxiety is your nervous system trying to protect you

Anxiety is a natural alarm system. Sometimes it goes off too often, too loudly, or at the wrong times. You might notice worry that will not quiet down, trouble sleeping, irritability, or a body that never fully relaxes.

You do not need a diagnosis to start therapy. If anxiety is getting in the way of your life, that is reason enough.

Understanding it

How anxiety can show up

Anxiety looks different for everyone. For some people it is mostly in the mind: overthinking, what-ifs, and dread. For others it lives in the body: a racing heart, shallow breath, stomach trouble, or muscle tension that never lets go.

Related concerns include panic, social anxiety, performance anxiety, health worries, and perinatal anxiety. Our team works with many of these.

How we work with anxiety

We start by helping your body feel safer, then explore what keeps anxiety going and practice new ways to respond.

  2. Step 2

    Stabilizing

Learning grounding skills to calm your body in the moment.

  3. Step 3

    Processing

Exploring the patterns, beliefs, or experiences that feed the anxiety.

  4. Step 4

Using new responses in real life, with more ease over time.

Questions people ask

Questions about anxiety therapy

What is the difference between stress and anxiety?
Stress is usually a response to a clear pressure and eases when it passes. Anxiety can continue without a clear trigger, or long after the pressure is gone. Both are worth support.
Will I need medication?
Repose therapists do not prescribe medication. Some people find medication helpful alongside therapy. Your therapist can talk with you about options and coordinate with your prescriber if you have one.
Can I do anxiety therapy online?
Yes. Many clients work on anxiety by video from home, anywhere in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut.
