Therapy for teens, with room for parents too

Adolescence brings big feelings and big changes. Therapy offers teens a private, respectful space, and gives parents support along the way.

Where to begin

Growing up is a lot, and support helps

Teens today navigate school pressure, social media, friendships, identity, and changes in their bodies and families. It is common for stress to show up as irritability, withdrawal, trouble sleeping, worry, or pulling away from things they used to enjoy.

Parents often notice something has shifted before they know what it is. A consultation can help you both sort it out.

Understanding it

What teens bring to therapy

Teens come to Repose for anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, identity questions, friendship and family conflict, and the effects of difficult experiences. Some come for a specific challenge. Others want a trusted adult outside the family to talk to.

We work with pre-teens and teens, individually and with families.

Our approach

How we work with teens

We build trust first, keep sessions engaging, and use approaches that fit how teens think, feel, and communicate.

  1. Step 1

    Orientation

Meeting the teen and family, and agreeing on goals and privacy.

  2. Step 2

    Stabilizing

Skills for stress, big emotions, and sleep that teens actually use.

  3. Step 3

    Processing

Exploring what is underneath, at a pace that feels safe.

  4. Step 4

    Integration

Bringing new skills into school, friendships, and home.

Questions people ask

Questions about therapy for teens

What will you tell me about my teen's sessions?
Therapists share general progress and anything related to safety, while keeping personal details private. This protects the trust that helps teens open up. Your therapist will explain the agreement at the start.
What if my teen does not want to go?
That is common. A first conversation with no pressure can help. Some teens warm up once they meet a therapist they connect with.
Will insurance cover my teen's therapy?
Individual therapy for someone under 18 may be covered, depending on your plan. Family therapy is self-pay. See Insurance & Fees.
