Grief & loss

Grief counseling that makes room for all of it

Loss can shake your sense of who you are. Grief counseling offers a steady place to honor what you lost and find your footing again.

Where to begin

There is no right way to grieve

Grief is a natural response to loss, and it affects the whole person. You might feel waves of sadness, anger, guilt, or numbness. Your body may feel heavy or restless. Sleep, appetite, and focus can all change.

Grief does not follow a schedule. Therapy can help you carry it with more support and less isolation.

Understanding it

The many forms of grief

Grief follows the death of someone close, but also other losses: a relationship, a pregnancy, your health, a home, or a future you imagined. Some losses are not widely recognized, which can make grief feel lonely.

We also support people through anticipatory grief, pregnancy loss, and grief after a sudden or traumatic death.

Our approach

How we work with grief

We make space for your story and your feelings, and help your body carry grief with a little more ease.

  1. Step 1

    Orientation

Getting to know your loss, your relationships, and what you need.

  2. Step 2

    Stabilizing

Finding ways to rest, ground, and get through hard days.

  3. Step 3

    Processing

Exploring feelings, memories, and meaning at a pace that feels right.

  4. Step 4

    Integration

Finding ways to carry your loss while living a full life.

Questions people ask

Questions about grief counseling

How do I know if I need grief counseling?
There is no threshold. If grief feels heavy, lonely, or stuck, or if you want support moving through it, counseling may help.
Is it too soon, or too late, to start?
Neither. Some people begin right after a loss. Others come years later. Grief can be explored at any point.
Do you support pregnancy loss?
Yes. Pregnancy and infant loss are deeply felt, and often unseen. See our perinatal and postpartum support page.
